I leave here a poem traduced by the master Muguel Leon Portilla, form the "Nahuatl Poetry" book.

In itzcuintli / El perro / The dog
In ihcuac zan ye novel,/Cuando estoy solo,/When I'm alone,
Nican, notech ca notzcuin/ Junto a mi, aqui esta mi perro./Next to me, here's my dog
Ompa, in can ye mihtoa,/Allá, donde dicen/There, where they say
Quenonamican,/que de algún modo se existe/that someway you exist
¿Azo notech,/¿acaso junto a mi,/ there, next to me,
Ompa ye notzcuin?/ estará allá mi perro?/will my dog be?

The word xoloitzcuintle, xoloescuintle, xoloescuincle, soloescuincle or soloescuintle, comes from the nahuatl xolotl and itzcuintli, dog. The term xolotl has many meanings, but they are all related to the same etimological root.
