RESCATE CANINO EN LA CUEVA DEL XUCHITL
DOG RESCUE IN XUCHITL'S CAVE

Ricardo Martinez.....

We went out on saturday february 16th towards Veracruz, our plan was to visit Xuchitl's cave in Maltrata, Veracruz with the the purpose of continuing a promising exploration and topography. With the usual delay in Mexico's city borders we arrived at the mouth of the cave around 2 in the afternoon. The camp was installed and 3 groups were organized, the first one with the intention of proceeding with the exploration, the second to make the topograph and the third stayed in the surface as backup. The estimated time to leave was 2am of the next day, that's why us, the surface group, got worried when at around 7:00 at night, we saw a light and a person coming out of the cave. What had happened?

The first team, that was supposed to continue with the cave, after going down the second floor and just before a norrow path, found a crouched and barely alive little dog; one of those dogs that live in the country's ranches and that we never pay enough attention to. The dog was barely moving, a first impresion would say he's dead since he didnt react when he felt the newcomers. They approached him chocolate, but he didnt even smell it; it was necessary to get it into his mouth so he would start to react, they gave him a second chocolate which he avidly ate. It was clear that he had been in the cave for many days and that he was more dead than alive. The Dr Lourdes Nava, who was luckily on the first group checked him and found him, in spite of his hypothermia, in good physical state.

The responsability of getting the animal out, was on the second team, they analized several possibilities since the only way out was with vertical ropes. They decided the more simple way: getting the dog in a sack and that a person pull him out. Due to the little weight of the dog, Emilio Tajeda didnt have any problem on pulling him out the 30 meters that separated him from the exit, the problem was that every two or three pulls, he had to stop and talk to the animal to cheer him and calm him. The animal, maybe for instinct or maybe because he was really tierd, didnt resist and acted with complete docility so they could get him out of there.

Once outside, they gave him a little tuna that lasted just seconds, when they gave him the second can, a little further he started moving to go out of the sack. They helped him get out of the sack and once more he avidly ate the rest of the food. They decided not to give him anymore since it could cause a stomach disorder. The dog looked a little more food in the camp, looked around like trying to recognize, he rolled in the grass, I guess it was on part to get dry and in part for the joy of being alive. When he recognized where he was, he took one of the paths and got lost in the night. He looked in good shape and happy of being out.

VALE LA PENA TOMARSE EL TIEMPO PARA RESCATAR A UN ANIMAL, POR QUE NO SABES SI EL EN UN FUTURO HARA LO MISMO POR TI, Y EL CARIÑO Y AGRADECIMIENTO QUE RECIBES DE ELLOS NO TIENE PRECIO

It's worth taking the time to rescue an animal, because you dont know if in a future it will do the same for you, the affection and thankfullness you'll recieve from them is priceless

I agree, you cant save all but with one you rescue, you make the difference, I had 3 stray dogs, I didnt rescue them, they kinda came to the house long ago and we let them live here, now they are the guardian dogs, unfortunatedly, one died already, she was really old and a bus run her Sad but we still have her daughter and another dog.
